We and the world in general are all going through a financial crisis, everyone is trying to cut down on what they spend and so I am afraid that the first thing that we acknowledge that we have to cut down on is the amount that we spend on our clothes. And for us women that is quite a hard blow as we always like to wear the new ‘in’ items of clothing which are advertised every year and which give a boost to our moral.
Well all is not lost; even if you are trying to be as frugal as you can you can still look into your old wardrobe at no expense at all to see whether you can re-vamp some of your old items of clothing to make them appear new, different and in fashion.
Old blouses that you have had hanging there for ages can have the sleeves cut away and turned into blouses for the summer. An old white jean skirt that has begun to look yellow and old can be dyed. In fact any item that you feel that is now boring can have the colour changed by simply dying it. There is a product called Dylon which has a large array of colours to choose from and all you have to do is add the mixture to your washing machine, place the items that you want to dye inside the drum and set your washing machine to the longest and hottest cycle. You could end up with a bright purple jean skirt instead of the boring and worn out white one that you had before.
If you have a dress that you no longer like but like the colour of it, try cutting off the top part and leaving the bottom part as a skirt. All you have to do is sew in some bias binding to make the waistband and make sure that the zip doesn’t run by securing the end and you have ended up with a new skirt.
